Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Parents in South Auckland in New Zealand have been warned by local authorities to keep their young kids in their houses at night. The warning was issued after two street gang incidents broke out recently. There have been no fatalities to date, but the life of a young teenage boy is still currently hanging in the balance.

Attachment and Reciprocity in Family Life

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Relationships among generations have been considered within two conceptual frameworks, attachment and reciprocity. “Attachment” refers to the close emotional bond that family members typically use. “Reciprocity” describes the efforts family members make, to balance their giving and taking across the course of their lives. I recently read Joan E. Norris and Joseph A. Tindale's book titled “Among Generations,” in which various theories and opinions are being analyzed in an attempt to estimate the level of support exchange inside multigenerational families and the changes that take place among the family's members.

The Anti-Social Mobile Effect

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Traveling with any type of public transportation vehicle today in a metropolitan city, one could easily assert that the common mobile use has embraced different societies and penetrated the communication practices of people of all ages. Answering a sleek mobile phone that rings, by loudly reproducing a lesser quality version of the latest music hit, while ridding a packed bus or a crowded train carriage, is considered to be common practice. At the same time, playing games with your cell phone, or calling family or friends to let them know where you are and what you will be doing next, needs no justification as to whether it might be viewed as a token of responsibility or a mechanical act of boredom. How to Attract Women

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

It is unbelievable how many men there are who are awe-struck when it comes to approaching and talking to women. But what I find really appalling is the fact that so many of them are laboring under some unfounded illusions about women that prevent them from making any move whatsoever. Let's examine some of these misconceptions.

Becoming A Parent With No Children

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Perhaps you have children of your own for some years now or you are experiencing parenthood for the first time since last month. Whichever the situation may be, becoming a parent of a child is a natural process you have been preparing yourself to experience probably throughout your life. But becoming the parent of your own parents is in most cases something nobody has ever shown you how is done, or what it really entails.

An Adult Brother Sister Relationship

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I consider myself to be extremely lucky for having apart from two caring and loving parents, also a brother-who entered my life three and a half years after I was born-to turn to whether I am happy or in distress. Being the oldest child in our family, I was usually the one that had to listen to all the parenting advice before my brother was old enough to take a stand. Although our relationship has been through a lot of ups and downs, now that we both technically belong to the adult group of the family, I consider my brother to be one of the most caring and smart individuals I know and consider him to be irreplaceable in my life.
